My sister was diagnosed last week with stage 4 breast cancer. She learned about the cancer because her stomach filled with fluid and a biopsy of the fluid revealed cancer cells in the fluid. A mamogram and breast biopsy also revealed breast cancer. We are just sick about this. She starts chemotherapy today. My question is, can the cancer cells in the fluid in the stomach cause the cancer to spread to other organs. Does this mean that she definately has it in her lymph nodes? Is the fluid most likely caused by the tumor draining into her stomach. I am just confused because from what I have read stage 4 means the cancer has spread to other organs. Finally, is there hope for this type of cancer. I can use all the information I can find. That you for your help and time

After a woman has a lumpectomy, does the doctors send her tumor over to a lab to have it examined to examine the cancer cells? What if there are no cancer cells present in the tumor does that mean that the woman has been misdiagnosed with having cancer? Also is a estrogen negative and progesterone negative faster growing tumors or slower growing and do all stage 1 breast cancer patients with this tumor have to have chemothrapy?

Recently it was discovered that having a healthy P53 gene may actually cause cancer cells to grow back after chemo. A certain mutation will not cause regrowth of cancer cells. Should one be tested to see if the gene has mutated or not?
The mutation appears to improve survival rates. But does knowing whether or not you have the mutation change any thing in regards to treatment? Anyone have an answer?
Thank you.
